This course will be presented by a market research consultant and an architect who each have significant experience working with and designing environments for seniors. The program will explore the secrets of longevity of the people on the Greek Island of Ikaria. Further, this session will include information on a variety of wellness centers that for which the research consultant has conducted case studies and will also present design concepts that have been successfully implemented in wellness centers and facilities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Explore the wellness ways that the people of the Greek Island of Ikaria have lived for decades and how their homes, environment, and lifestyle foster well-being.

To demonstrate that wellness involves more than just fitness programs, and that building design is the first step in ensuring successful programming.

To provide physical examples of wellness programs and facilities, discuss why they both foster and hinder overall health, wellness, and safety of residents and staff, and what might be done differently in the design phase to promote well being and quality of life. Identify how to incorporate wellness concepts and SAGE design principles into building design to promote the safety, health, and wellness of residents and staff.
