Technology is revolutionizing the way we live, how we communicate, and how we care for ourselves and one another. The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the way senior living communities are connecting, serving, and caring for their residents. Implemented well, technology strategies and products could keep seniors connected and safe and help alleviate some of the stress on the caregivers supporting them. However, there are concerns and pitfalls to avoid about the connectivity of all things. This session will highlight useful technology and applications for senior living, while keeping potential security and privacy issues in mind.
Learning Objectives
• Identify how products, technologies, and design strategies combine to make smart environments.
• Identify senior-specific care and community technologies and products.
• Assess the pitfalls and challenges of integrating these technologies into care design.
• Explore future resources for the implementation of smart technology strategies into care design.
