Description:

Designing Dementia Capable Environments: Marrying Health, Safety and Wellness – Part II offers a high-level look at memory care design. The course will build off the information shared in Part I (offered as a SAGE webinar in June, 2020) in understanding how chronic, progressive dementias impact a person’s ability to function. This will enable you to make informed design decisions when helping owners, operators and developers create environmental supports that will best serve the person with dementia and those who care for them. These principles align with the SAGE Principles Related to Gerontological Environments.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the impact of environmental design on the functional ability of persons as they age with and without dementia.
  • Identify important design elements that support the remaining abilities of persons in all stages of dementia.
  • Have a better understanding of how the Dementia Capable Care Holistic Framework can inform design.
  • Discuss outcomes of selected design components for senior living and memory care environments.
