Course Description:

Join us for SAGE’s 100th webinar! Our very first webinar, “CodeBusters,” was presented on May 5, 2016. So we thought we’d go for a full-circle moment by bringing back one of the presenters of that webinar to share another code-centric session. Get ready to learn with the Code Ninja herself, Amy Carpenter! SAGE Co-founder Maggie Calkins will moderate this session and share a brief history of SAGE’s early days focused on advocating for code changes to humanize senior-living environments.

New standards for “assisted toileting and bathing” have been created, based on solid research, to address the specific needs of elders for toileting and bathing. This session will briefly review the new requirements, discuss the intent behind them, and talk through the practical applications. We know that there are a lot of questions about when these standards apply and how to apply them. The session will also talk through some of the common pitfalls of what not to do.

Learning Objectives:

Understand why new code language was enacted by the person who wrote the code

Hear the intent behind the code language and the research that supports it

Learn how to create better bathroom designs for elders

See how the code language translates into real layouts
