Course Description

In some parts of the world, people are living to be 100 years old or more. Researchers have dubbed these unique areas “Blue Zones™” and have found that the keys to their longevity are closely associated with environment and lifestyle. We wondered... is it possible to integrate these, and other “well” aging concepts, to offer longer, happier lives to your residents? The answer is YES. Several evidence-based common factors prove that elevating your lifestyle and environment can add years to your life and life to your years. And you don’t have to move to a Blue Zone to do so. This session will illustrate how your organization can, through facility design, create an environment and lifestyle for residents that embodies these concepts of longevity.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand what longevity means.

2. Understand the Blue Zone Power 9 ™ principles and gain exposure to lifestyles in other cultures that support longevity.

3. Explore how the concepts are applicable to senior living and the greater community.

4. Understand how implementing these concepts can be used as a marketing advantage, and for the enrichment of resident and staff lives, improving resident appeal and staff retention.
